mhm977

Daja Simpson's book, "I Wish You Were Here", tackles the challenging subject matter of coping with the loss of a parent. The author, Massillon native Daja Simpson, writes from the personal perspective of losing her son's father, and references the conversations she has had with her young son about his father's absence. The book begins in black and white and develops in color as the main character gains understanding. "I Wish You Were Here" was written to support a child’s imagination while coping with life's unforgettable moments, like the absence of a loved one. Essence Caldwell's accompanying illustrations are tender and effective, capturing the heart of this book's message in a way that is relatable for young people.
