David L. Cargill was born in Ramer, Alabama on March 13, 1923 to Johnnie and Sadie Cargill. He was a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Massillon, Ohio. He lived in Massillon, Ohio since 1947. He departed this life on Friday, March 3, 2023.
He served his country honorably and proudly as a Staff Sergeant in the 969 Field Artillery Unit during World War II. He bravely fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After being honorably discharged, he relocated to Massillon, Ohio where he began working for the B & O Railroad, until hired at Republic Steel Corporation, where he worked until 1983. He also worked for years at Rosker’s Auto Salvage where he was an Auto Disassembly Technician. After he retired, he continued to work part-time for Shaaray Torah Synagogue.
Mr. Cargill was well known in the community as a person who would lend a hand to any and every one, and, will be greatly missed.
He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters, Joyce (William) Chism, of Massillon, Ohio, Catherine (Willie) Gamble, of Oakland, California, Donna (James) Jones, of Canton, Ohio; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; eleven great-great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Cumi Cargill, his daughter Myrtle (Billie) Brady, great-great granddaughter, Kamarri Andrews, his parents, Johnnie and Sadie Cargill, and siblings, sisters Mozell, Johnnie B., Millie, Laurella, Sadie, Pauline, Estella and brothers Willie, Eugene, Charlie and Thomas.
