Chicola Whitfield

Adding to the list of African American educators in Massillon is Academy Principal at GlenOak High School and former physical science and chemistry teacher at Washington High School, Chicola Whitfield, a Washington High School graduate. Originally venturing off to medical school, Chicola was persuaded to go into education by Mrs. Rob, another Massillon teacher.

She obtained her undergraduate degree in chemistry from The University of Kentucky and her masters in education administration from Ashland University. ChicoIa continues her education profession at GlenOak High School in Canton, Ohio, where she is the principal of the Engineering and Industrial Technology plus Health Services programs. She spent eight years teaching in the classroom plus sixteen years and counting in administration.

Chicola was also a cheerleading coach during her career at Washington High School. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors and traveling.
