Early duplexes provided an affordable way to have spacious living quarters for a family. Sadly the Smoky Hollow area of Massillon suffered the worst flooding each spring. During the Flood Control Project 1939-1950, many of these houses were demolished for a Tuscarawas levee and viaduct bridges to be built at Lincoln Way, Tremont Ave, Cherry Rd, and Oberlin Rd.
